Contains the following type of materials: photographs. Covers the following time period: 1885-1985. General description of the collection: The Richard S. Allen photograph collection consists of stereo views and more current snapshot photos of various forts on the eastern seaboard of the United States from Florida to Maine. The majority of the photos were taken during the period 1955-1985 on visits to these now historic sites. For views of many of the forts as they appeared in an unpreserved condition or in an almost totally destroyed state, these photos are good examples. Also included are earlier views of the forts as they existed in better condition, closer to their time of construction.
